Inspired by the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM), the Curado BFS is engineered for finesse applications, featuring an ultralight shallow spool designed specifically for light lines and small lures. This reel excels where traditional low-profile baitcasters struggle, giving anglers the ability to cast lightweight presentations with greater accuracy and ease.
At the heart of its performance is Shimano’s Finesse Tune Brake (FTB) system. By relocating the braking unit from the spool to the palming side-plate, the system dramatically reduces spool weight, requiring minimal force to start rotation. Unlike conventional magnetic brakes that apply consistent resistance, the FTB system uses centrifugal force to activate the magnetic brakes only when needed—ensuring smoother, longer, and more controlled casts.
Fully adjustable via an external dial or individual magnets, the Curado BFS gives anglers precise control over their braking setup. Ideal for targeting pressured or finicky fish, it’s the perfect reel for scaling down your presentation without compromising casting performance.

- X SHIP
X SHIP provides improved gear performance. Large diameter drive gear, optimally positioned pinion gear and drive gear, and two points bearings supported pinion gear produce light reeling under load.
- HAGANE BODY
The use of lightweight and rigid metals such as aluminum and magnesium firmly suppresses deflection, distortion, and torsion of the reel. This protects delicate gear meshing and enables smooth reeling.
- SILENT TUNE
By applying slight pressure to the bearing holding the spool, SilentTune reduces the vibration of the bearing during high-speed rotation. This improves the quietness while casting and the rise of the spool rotation becomes even smoother.
- FTB
Shimano developed the Finesse Tune Brake (FTB) to improves casting performance of lightweight lures by eliminating the brake unit from the spool. This revolutionary design further reduces weight beyond traditional spool-porting designs that keep the brake unit attached. When the spool rotation speed increases, these magnets move outward to the spool closer.The backlash is prevented from the increased Brake power.

S A-RB bearings are put through the same process as Shimano’s A-RB bearings but feature shields on both sides of the bearings. These shields reduce the possibility of salt or sand inhibiting the rotation of the bearing.
