Daiwa’s range of TD BLACK reels and rods is a staple among avid anglers across Australia, designed and developed specifically for our local market. In 2024, the TD BLACK MQ range of small spinning reels takes another leap forward with the introduction of AIRDRIVE DESIGN into the range.

The 2024 TD BLACK MQ now features two of Daiwa’s most significant innovations in spinning reel design: the Monocoque (MQ) Body and the new AIRDRIVE DESIGN. The one-piece MQ Body enhances strength and power, while the AIRDRIVE DESIGN reimagines the rotor, bail arm, and other components for improved operability and responsiveness. This makes the new TD BLACK the most technologically advanced version to date.

The MQ Body allows for larger gears, providing increased power, precision, and longevity. Its single-piece construction enhances body strength and rigidity, preventing water and detritus from entering the reel. This design also accommodates a larger diameter drive gear within the same body size, boosting gear durability and power.

AIRDRIVE DESIGN focuses on achieving ultimate responsiveness. A lightweight rotor and bail arm reduce the rotational mass needed to spin around the spool, resulting in lower start-up inertia and effortless reeling.

• AIRDRIVE DESIGN - Daiwa’s new Airdrive Design, a four pillar (Airdrive Rotor, Airdrive Bail, Airdrive Spool, and Airdrive Shaft) design concept that reduces weight, and enhances rotational smoothness and responsiveness to create a reel that is next level in both form and function.

• ZAION V BODY - A new generation of lightweight Daiwa’s resin and carbon material. The Zaion V material is both strong and incredibly lightweight.

• MONOCOQUE (MQ) - MQ Body takes reel design to the next level. The MQ system does not require conventional side plate, instead using an engine plate to screw directly to the body. Eliminating the need for screws to hold a body cover in place. MQ body improves the strength of the reel, it also improves the water-resistance of the body and allows a larger diameter drive gear to be installed.

• MAGSEALED BODY - Ultimate protection is delivered to the engine room of the reel with a magnetised oil seal located on the main shaft of the reel’s rotor shutting the door to the elements and unwanted intruders. Dust, water, and salt intrusion into the inner workings of a reel are a thing of the past with MagSeal.
