FISHING REPORT

This week’s fishing report, brought to you by the team at Tackle World Adelaide Metro.

Thursday -- 15th of February, 2018

METRO

Snapper catches have been coming from boats heading out of O’Sullivans Beach. With good catches coming from Seaford, Aldinga and Pt Stanvac.

Further north, some good catches of Snapper to 8kg have come from grounds near the Long Spit and North West of North Haven.

Some good reports of Mulloway have come in from grounds well offshore of North Haven, with good sized fish found on some more traditional Snapper spots.

Other Mulloway catches have been coming from West lakes and the Onkaparinga River.

King George Whiting are patchy at Brighton and Moana but can be found if prepared to keep shifting. Try depths of 8-10 metres off Brighton and Somerton for best results.

Smaller King George Whiting can be found in better numbers at Outer Harbour and Pt Gawler.

Some good catches of large Garfish have come from Bower Road, Semaphore Reef, Outer Harbor and Hallett Cove. Smaller fish have come from Brighton Jetty in the morning and at Horseshoe Reef at Christies Beach.

Squid catches have been consistent across the Metro coast, with jetty, boat, kayak and land based anglers all reporting good catches.

Brighton Jetty has had some good catches early morning as has Port Noarlunga Jetty. Boats have been doing well out from Kingston Park, Hallett Cove and Marino Rocks. Land based anglers can also catch Squid from shore at Marino Rocks.

For boats fishing out from Outer Harbor, Squid have been found by drifting over the weed beds in front of the Northern Breakwall and towards St Kilda. The Shimano Sephia Egixile BB jigs are working very well in the Natural Herring colour.

Salmon Trout are prolific throughout the Port River system and West lakes, with fish taking baits and lures intended for Bream more often than not.

Salmon Trout can also be found at St Kilda on a rising tide and at most breakwaters from O’Sullivans Beach to Outer Harbor.

Mullet have come from some of the Southern beaches, with Southport, Sellicks and Christies Beach all reporting catches on a rising tide.

Some good Bream reports have been coming from the Onkaparinga River and the Patawolonga River, with Zman Grubz and Gulp Shrimps ideal soft plastics for these fish.

Port Noarlunga Jetty has been producing some good sized Tommies over the past few weeks, with good numbers caught after dark.

Yellowfin Whiting can still be found at Thompsons Beach and Port Gawler, with small poppers like the Strada Chaos 45mm working well.

Blue Swimmer Crabs have been coming from slightly deeper water to 10m, with some very large ones coming from Semaphore and Largs Bay.

Rakers can still get reasonable numbers of Blue Swimmer Crabs from Thompsons Beach.

YORKE PENINSULA

Southern Bluefin Tuna are in good numbers and of good size out from Marion Bay.

Charter crews and recreational anglers have been finding big schools of fish out from Pondalowie Bay, Althorpes and Wedge Island. Larger fish are still coming from the North Coast of Kangaroo Island for those heading that way.

Snapper catches have been best at Port Victoria and Port Hughes, with some good bags also coming from Offshore of Stansbury and Edithburg.

King George Whiting have come from Tapleys Shoals, Port Hughes and Port Victoria, with other good catches coming from Pt Turton and Marion Bay.

Blue Swimmer Crabs have come from Wallaroo, Port Hughes and Moonta Bay with all of these towns Jetties also producing good numbers.

Pt Augusta has some very large Blue Swimmer Crabs at the moment which usually continues through autumn and winter.

Snook were caught at Marion Bay Jetty and at Moonta Bay, with some good catches coming from areas west of Tiparra lighthouse through to Cape Elizabeth.

Mullet have started to show up at beaches along the coast with some catches coming from Pt Pirie, The Gap, Berry Bay, Marion Bay, Butlers Beach and Edithburg.

Kingfish have visited the Jetties at Port Hughes and Ardrossan but are very timid. For those fishing offshore from Marion Bay some bigger Kingfish have been found at Eymes Reef and close to Kangaroo Island.

Squid are being caught at Port Hughes Jetty, with better catches coming for those fishing into the night.

Mulloway have been coming from some of the beaches near Gleesons Landing.

Salmon catches have been coming from Browns Beach and Berry Bay, with some smaller fish coming from Cape Elizabeth.

Yellowfin Whiting have been caught in good numbers at Pt Julia and Tiddy Widdy Beach, with some good sized fish still coming from the South Beach at Port Hughes.

EYRE PENINSULA

Offshore of Port Lincoln and Coffin Bay is usually quite reliable at this time of the year, with steady weather patterns helping anglers get out and on to some nice fish.

Kingfish, Samson Fish and Southern Bluefin Tuna are the main target for most offshore anglers, and the start of this season looks to have produced some seriously good fish for those venturing out to Rocky and Greenly Islands.

King George Whiting have been small at Coffin Bay and Farm Beach, with most crews having to work hard to get a bag of legals.

Tumby Bay has had better sized fish, with some nice catches coming from the Sir Joseph Banks Group.

Other King George Whiting catches have come from Streaky Bay and Whyalla.

Snapper news has come from Arno Bay and Cowell, with some smaller fish coming from areas offshore of Whyalla.

Salmon have been inconsistent along much of the West Coast, with only a few reports coming from Almonta and Mt Camel Beach.

Blue Swimmer Crabs are in good numbers throughout the bay at Port Lincoln, with some really good sized ones caught regularly.

FLEURIEU PENINSULA

Southern Bluefin Tuna have been caught in a variety of areas out from Victor Harbor and Cape Jervis.

Some good sized fish to 30kg have been found close to shore at Waitpinga, whilst others venturing further offshore to the Pages and Sanders Bank have also found fish between 15-30kg.

Hardbody lures like the Samaki Pacemaker in natural baitfish patterns, as well as small to medium sized skirted lures have been working well.

Snapper have been coming in from Wirrina, Myponga, Cape Jervis and Victor Harbor, with some good catches also coming from Backstairs Passage.

King George Whiting have come from Wirrina, Lady Bay and Victor Harbor.

Snook have also come from the inside of the Bluff Jetty, with some good catches taken on Zman SlimSwimz soft plastics.

A few Mullet have come from Morgan Beach, Parsons Beach, Waitpinga, Sugars Beach and Middleton.

SOUTH EAST

The surf fishing in the South East has been exceptional so far this summer, with Salt Creek continuing to produce some nice sized Mulloway, Sharks and Salmon.

Further down the coast there have been some good catches of Salmon at Canunda, with a few Sharks also caught.

The Glenelg River has been fishing well for smaller school Mulloway, with good catches coming on live baits and soft plastics.

Offshore fishing has been limited over the past week, but prior to the strong winds some good catches of Flathead and Shark came from Port MacDonnell.

RIVERLAND - FRESHWATER

Some great catches of Callop came from Morgan over the weekend, with plenty of large fish caught on hardbody lures and spinnerbaits.

Other areas fishing well for Callop have been Walker Flat, Swan Reach and Ramko.

Murray Cod catches have become quite steady over the past few weeks, with some good fish to 120cm coming from areas between Lock 3 and Lock 4.

Trolling large deep diving hardbody lures along the cliffs has been a successful method, with Jd Eddy and White Crow lures producing many good fish recently.

Yabbies have been coming from areas around Lyrop and Nildottie, with some good sized ones quite common.

Setting opera house style nets along the deep drop offs in the main river has been producing the bigger Yabbies.
